Over the weekend, we saw some really intriguing matches.
The match between Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain ended 4 – 2 in favour of Les Parisiens. Mbappe found the net twice as PSG went top of the league table in a much-needed win. The striker opened the scoring before Pereira made it 2 – 0 at half time. Angel di Maria added a third goal early in the second half of the game before Maxwell and Slimani responded for Lyon.
However, the two goals from the host weren’t enough. This victory takes PSG to the top of Ligue 1 above Lille, who lost against an unexpected winner in Nimes yesterday.
In England, the EPL match between West Ham United and Arsenal ended in a tie. Having left three-nil in the early part of the game, the host couldn’t capitalize on the lead.
Goals from Lingard, Soucek, and Bowen came in too early as Arsenal returned two goals through Soucek and Dawson’s own goals. At the 82nd minute, Lacazette added a third through Nicolas Pepe’s assist, drawing the game. While Tottenham won Aston Villa by 2 goals to nil.
Elsewhere, Manchester United lost to Leicester in the English FA Cup to advance to its semifinal stage. Chelsea likewise defeated Sheffield United. Leicester City is set to meet Southampton in the Semis while Chelsea spars up with Manchester City.
In Spain, Barcelona continued their fight for the top of the league when they defeated Real Sociedad, a whopping 6 to 1. At the same time, the leader, Atletico Madrid, won Alaves by a lone goal. Villarreal and Valencia likewise weren’t left out of action as they defeated Granada and Cadiz 2 – 1, respectively.
Besides, with the international break set to resume this week, clubs will have less than 2 weeks to prepare for the next matches.
There will be no club matches this week till next weekend.
